Project overview
Visionary Manufacturing Solutions supported MillerKnoll with a series of press control modernization projects across multiple stamping presses. MillerKnoll is one of the major manufacturers in the office furniture industry, with several plants across the United States, and the relationship began around the time Herman Miller acquired Knoll and became MillerKnoll.

Customer Challenge
MillerKnoll had pain points with older presses and aging control systems that were becoming obsolete. The customer needed updated controls that aligned with newer technology, current operating standards, and modern safety expectations. Because MillerKnoll operates as an Allen-Bradley house, compatibility with Allen-Bradley controls was a key project requirement.
VMS Solution
Visionary partnered with Toledo Integrated Systems to provide press control upgrades that met MillerKnoll’s technology and controls requirements. For the first project, Visionary and Toledo supported two Chicago presses located next to each other, taking a hands-on approach from the initial site visit through quoting, review, installation, and startup.
Project Approach
The team visited the site, took detailed photos, documented existing wiring diagrams and electrical schematics, developed a detailed quote, and returned to review the scope with the customer in person. MillerKnoll appreciated the level of detail and clarity in the quote, which helped build confidence and led to the first purchase order for two press control upgrades.
Long-Term Relationship
After the first two press control projects, Visionary continued to support MillerKnoll with additional upgrades. Over the next three years, the team completed three more press control projects and is preparing to support two more presses, demonstrating the customer’s continued confidence in Visionary, Toledo Integrated Systems, and the solution provided.
Customization and Responsiveness
During the first installations, Visionary learned that MillerKnoll’s team had very specific expectations for how they wanted the presses to operate. The project team was able to make changes on the fly to accommodate those needs, reinforcing the importance of versatility, responsiveness, and adapting to each customer’s day-to-day pressroom workflow.
