COE Press Equipment

Coil reels, servo feeds, straighteners, shears, stackers and cut-to-length lines — thousands of machines installed since 1976, and the heaviest and widest coil feeding equipment available.

COE Press Equipment is a one-stop shop for coil processing, with thousands of machines installed. Established in 1976 in Rochester, Michigan, COE began by manufacturing air feeds and coil cradles, relocated to Sterling Heights in 1980, introduced its first servo feed in 1982, and acquired the assets of Sesco, Inc. in 1999 — it now markets the heaviest and widest coil feeding equipment available.

COE builds coil reels, roll feeds, straighteners, shears, stackers and complete cut-to-length lines, with servo feed controls and customized packages for automotive, metal processing, HVAC, appliance and related industries.

Rapid-Air

Precision feeds, reels, straighteners, cutters and compact coil handling for narrower-width press rooms — designed and built in Rapid-Air’s own U.S. factories.

Rapid-Air began as a stamping operation over half a century ago and developed its own material handling equipment because nothing available was adequate. Its products have been the preferred choice in press rooms since: proven production, accuracy and dependability, with precision control at high productivity levels and lasting performance and value.

Every Rapid-Air product is designed and built in the company’s own U.S. factories.

Problem

Coil handling is the front end of many stamping, forming, cut-to-length, and roll forming operations. When the reel, straightener, feeder, controls, and material path are not matched to the customer’s coil, material strength, press, die, speed, and floor space, the result can be poor flatness, feed accuracy issues, longer changeovers, tooling damage, scrap, downtime, and operator frustration.

VMS helps customers build coil handling systems around the actual production need, from stand-alone reels and feeders to complete feed lines, compact lines, high-strength material packages, precision straightening systems, wire feed systems, and integrated solutions that support presses, roll formers, blanking lines, and downstream automation.

What VMS delivers

Matched to the material
Recommendations based on material type, thickness, width, yield strength, coil weight and outside diameter, feed length, press speed, die requirements, floor space and operator workflow.
Complete feed lines
Reels, straighteners, servo feeds, thread tables, loop controls, compact lines, controls, conveyors and line integration.
Precision straightening
Improved flatness, tighter tolerances and better feed accuracy that protect downstream dies and presses.
High-strength material
Heavier-duty straighteners, reels and feed packages designed around demanding material requirements.
Setup assistance
Work Roll Advisor, Work Roll Compensation, feed setup support, edge guides, passline adjustment, end-of-material sensing, jog pendants and diagnostics that reduce setup complexity and changeover time.
Single point of contact
Equipment selection, layout, guarding, installation, startup, training, service, retrofits and preventative maintenance.

Proof

VMS supported Teijin Automotive with a heavy-duty COE feed line designed to process higher-strength material required for a Honda program. The line included a 30-inch-wide servo feeder, 350 Series straightener, and 10,000-pound coil reel, helping improve feed accuracy, reduce coil changeover time, and fit the upgraded equipment within the existing guarded footprint.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What information is needed to recommend the right coil handling system?

Helpful information includes material type, thickness range, width range, yield strength, coil weight, coil outside diameter, inside diameter, feed length, feed accuracy, press speed, die requirements, floor space, feed direction, passline height, power requirements, and whether the line is feeding a press, roll former, cut-to-length line, wire system, or other downstream process.

When should a customer upgrade an existing feed line?

Customers should consider upgrading when the current line cannot process stronger or thicker material, causes feed accuracy issues, creates flatness problems, slows down changeovers, damages tooling, lacks service support, or cannot keep up with press speed and production requirements.

Can better coil handling protect tooling and improve part quality?

Yes. Better coil handling can improve material flatness, feed accuracy, threading, setup repeatability, and material presentation into the die or downstream process. That can reduce rejected parts, bad hits, tooling damage, downtime, and operator troubleshooting.

Can VMS retrofit or improve existing coil handling equipment?

Yes. When the mechanical equipment is still sound, VMS can evaluate controls retrofits, feeder upgrades, service support, preventative maintenance, replacement parts, and integration improvements to help extend the useful life of existing coil handling equipment.
